Automatic Direction Arrow

advertise here
Quite a few of use have, especially during parties, landed into a kitchen store or a cellar in an attempt to find the bathroom in someone,s or the other,s house(own up now). Those who have had such experiences know what it means.A small dynamic arrow continually flashes and appears to move in a direction in which it points(towards the bathroom, exit etc) and helps prevent embarrassment to many guests-or sometimes even one self-especially if one is a sleep-walker(pardon me).

The circuit is shown in schematic. It uses a 555 based oscillator that clocks the universal CMOS counter CD4017.This IC drives the LED pointer which are arranged as shown in figure 1.This arrangement produces the effect of a moving arrow, which moves from left to right.

The circuit may be assembled on the universal PCB type I(given at the and). All the 11 LEDs must be flat types and should be mounted on a veroboard

The schematic direction indicator. The LEDs move towards the indicator direction forming a pointer
Figure 1.The LEDs must be arranged in this way the panel given mat be used
Figure 2 A true scale panel.it may be photostatted on to a transparent
or self adhesive translucent film,or used directly.
